For two days from February 6th to 7th, Oulu was the focal point of the bravest of startups, investors and media. 24 startups from 9 countries pitched in the Dark Bear semifinal to win a spot in the coveted finals which were attended by hundreds in Oulu not afraid of the cold, and thousands of people via the livestream.
The Polar Bear Pitching business conference before the finals gathered 700 people to Areena Oulu where workshops, keynotes and matchmaking kept people warm and focusing on growing their business.
The Finals on Feb 7th gathered the entire local community of entrepreneurs and investors and hosted very special guests such as Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen, Oulu’s very own Kärpät and the Air Guitar star Markus “Black Raven” Vainionpää.
After a cool and chilling show with 12 brilliant startups pitching, Artisun won Polar Bear Pitching 2018 and took home to Estonia the prize of 10 000 eur! ArtiSun produces LED lights that optimize plant growth. They weren’t the only winner though, as the top three Cotio, Castprint and of course Artisun won a trip to China as well, and startups such as Diske reporting that immediately after their pitch several hospitals and customers started calling them. Business is thriving!
