Tommi Karjalainen, an industrial engineering student from the University of Oulu, works now for startup companies. He took part in the Avanto Accelerator – a program for University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences students, who have discovered a business idea.
For two days from February 6th to 7th, Oulu was the focal point of the bravest of startups, investors and media.
Kickstart is a business idea competition organized by Oulu Innovation Alliance that brings together the students of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, University of Oulu and Oulu Vocational College.
“When I signed up, I didn't have any great expectations. It was my first time being involved in such an event and I had no experience with branding although I had read about it in books. So in signing up, I just came in for the experience, work with "strangers" as teammates and most importantly, have fun.” When asked about what he learned during the event, Andy did not hesitate to mention: “Teamwork, tolerance, creative thinking, pitching and thinking-out-of-the-box!”
Business Kitchen in the University of Oulu is the place where people gather together to create something new, to share ideas, or meet new people. Brandathon had all of these elements, but in addition it had the goal of increasing awareness and appreciation for branding and marketing. How was this achieved last year you might ask?
