Business Kitchen has shown me that the expertise you have can be applied to many fields and business can be creative. I’ve got the courage to try and to exit my comfort zone. I’m sure that the projects I’ve done at the Business Kitchen have had an impact on getting my current position.
I can easily say that Business Kitchen has certainly affected my life. It has helped me to substantially extend my network. In summary, Business Kitchen is giving you a lot of support which is needed to develop your business idea further. If I’d have to choose three words to describe Business Kitchen, I would say supportive, fun, innovative.
I got a business idea together with my friend Jean in January 2015. We talked a lot about our business and finally Jean and I decided to move to Oulu from Stockholm. We left our jobs, apartments and our entire life in Stockholm behind - to start a new adventure.
Mukti first came to Finland in 2010. During his studies he was introduced to Business Kitchen by his project supervisor, launching a chain of events which led him to where he is today - running three projects with a worldwide network.
So how did I initially make my way to Business Kitchen? I was approached by a teacher at our school regarding the Arctic Business Corridor project, for which the Business Kitchen was seeking participants.
I study International Business at Oulu University of Applied Sciences and currently work as an intern at Business Kitchen. I got to know the Business Kitchen during the first year of studies when we visited the previous location on our entrepreneurship course.
I moved to Oulu in August 2015. I got an email which searched participants for Demola projects. I applied for them and got chosen for one. First time I heard about Business Kitchen was when I visited the place for Demola related event
Business Kitchen in the University of Oulu is the place where people gather together to create something new, to share ideas, or meet new people. On Thursday afternoon, right after the cotton candy machine is set up next to the entrance, people begin to arrive in our brand new Tellus space. Excited murmur fills the air mixed up with the sweet scent of the light pink cotton candy.
In May, Business Kitchen had the privilege to host a three-day meeting between universities and business people from five countries and six universities including Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway. The topic of the meeting, was the new international company project concept ABC.

Oulu’s newest entrepreneurs from the Avanto Accelerator program are getting ready to take their first steps publicly. Avanto Accelerator is a program run in the Business Kitchen, the universities Entrepreneurship Hub.In the six week program individual people and teams grow to improve their networks and turn their ideas into promising new ventures.
This time in the Avanto Accelerator, we literally moved our participants in the Avanto, the ice-hole, so they have been through a lot! They have also learned about self branding from branding guru Tim Foster.
The Avanto Accelerator teams and coaches hit the Myllyoja residents’ house last Wednesday 22.11 for a pretty epic pitching workshop. This was no ordinary workshop – yes, a keynote speech and practicing was on the agenda, but so was food (really good food), drinks, going to the sauna, relaxing in an outdoor jacuzzi, and last but not least, a hole in the ice.
Spring is here, and Avanto Accelerator is gearing up for it's hottest day. On demoday, the teams will come together to pitch for the public what they've accomplished in the last ten weeks and what their plans going forward will be. New companies will be born, very soon!
